Backend Developer

We are looking for a backend developer to build and maintain the systems our client platforms run on — the APIs, data models and integrations that have to keep working long after launch day.

About the role

Onetouch builds e-commerce platforms, business systems, internal tools and content-driven sites for clients across Honduras, Spain and the wider region. The backend work is rarely one shape: one month it is a payment and inventory integration, the next it is the data model for a multi-language content platform, or an internal system replacing the spreadsheet that has run a company for a decade.

You will work close to the people designing the thing, not three handoffs downstream. That means you get to influence what gets built, not only how.

What you’ll do

• Design and build APIs and services with clear contracts the frontend can rely on.
• Model data properly — relational schemas, migrations, indexes — and be able to say why you chose what you chose.
• Integrate third-party systems: payment gateways, ERPs, CRMs, email and messaging providers.
• Set up and maintain deployment, environments and monitoring, so a release is not an event.
• Handle authentication, authorisation and personal data with the care the law actually requires.
• Write the tests and the notes that let someone else — including future you — pick a project back up.
• Explain technical trade-offs to non-technical people in plain language, without condescending.

What we’re looking for

• 3+ years building and running backend systems in production.
• Depth in a server-side language — Node/TypeScript, PHP, Python or Go. Which one matters less than how well you know it.
• Real SQL: joins, indexes, transactions, and recognising when the query is the problem.
• REST API design experience and a working understanding of authentication patterns (sessions, JWT, OAuth).
• Git, CI, and at least one cloud or PaaS environment — Vercel, AWS, GCP or DigitalOcean.
• A security instinct: input validation, secrets handling, least privilege. Habits, not a checklist.
• Enough English to read documentation and specifications. Day-to-day work runs in Spanish.

Nice to have

• E-commerce work — Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom checkout — including the unglamorous parts.
• Headless CMS internals, especially Sanity, or another content API.
• Queues, background jobs or caching — anything you have had to scale under real load.
• Experience with GDPR-adjacent data handling and retention rules.
• Docker, or infrastructure as code.

How we work

This role is remote-first: from Honduras, Spain, or anywhere with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with Honduras time (GMT-6). Our San Pedro Sula and Madrid studios are open if you would rather work with people around you.

Projects run in small mixed teams and we review work early and out loud. If a deadline is unrealistic we would much rather hear it in week one than in week six.
